The St. Louis New Year's Eve celebration known as First Night will include an Eden connection as it marks a crucial anniversary in the nation's history.

2013 was the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. In honor of this historic event First Night St. Louis at Grand Center is featuring a "Freedom's Eve Emancipation Dramatization" to recapture what that first night might have been like for slaves waiting for freedom to arrive. Held at the Scottish Rites Auditorium, there were three opportunities to experience the dramatization.

In addition, there was a contemporary Watch Night Service led by Mid-town area clergy to welcome the New Year concluding with a fireworks display at midnight.

The Rev. Dr. Lerone Martin, Assistant Professor of History of American Religion and Culture at Eden Theological Seminary delivered the Watch Night message.
