Reverend Steven Hecky receives Honorary Degree

Reverend Steven Hecky, Pastor, St. John’s UCC, Newport, Kentucky, receives an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree at the service of commencement for Eden Seminary held May 18 at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown St. Louis.

Steve is a graduate from Eden, 1972 Master of Divinity, and a classmate of John Bracke. One of his Eden professors, Walter Brueggemann, recommended him for this honor saying, “I am mightily impressed by the way Steve, in the most mature fashion, combines gentle pastoral ministry and a passion for public issues…he is exactly the kind of pastor the seminary should honor.” A pastor does many things, and Steve Hecky's list goes on for quite a while. But being a pastor is more than the things one does, it is also a way of being with people, a type of integrity and spiritual maturity that comes with being shaped by the Gospel.
