Two Eden Alumni Receive Grants from the Lilly Endowment
The congregations of Reverend Scott Elliot ('06) and Reverend Sue Artt ('06) have been awarded the 2012 Lilly Endowment National Clergy Renewal grant. The National Clergy Renewal Program was created to help congregations give their pastors extended time for renewal and reflection. The grantees represent 23 denominational bodies from 158 congregations in 40 states.
Reverend Scott Elliot is currently the head pastor at Riviera United Church of Christ in Palm Bay, Florida. During his sabbatical, he will be studying peace and theatre. Elliot plans to utilize the peace and theatre education in worship dramas and story sermons. He will also use his time to travel, write, and reconnect with his friends and family
Reverend Sue Artt is the head pastor at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Nashville, Illinois. Artt and her daughter plan to spend a month touring Europe, learning how God is known in other parts of the world. Their trip will conclude with a visit to the Auschwitz concentration camp to seek answers to the question, "Considering the atrocities at this place, could this ground ever be considered 'holy'?" In her absence, St. Paul UCC hopes to fill the pulpit with a student from Eden.
